Caversham, Reading, The Heights School

Stuck for kids party ideas in Reading? The trouble with our kids jeep driving parties is that they require a lot of space. Spacious kids party venues like the hall at the newly built Heights School in Caversham are far and few between. So if you live locally, in Caversham, Emmer Green or Mapledurham for starters, then you are in luck!

Located on the Caversham to Woodcote Road, and built on the corner of Mapledurham Playing Fields, this party venue is really easy to get to. A caveat – just watch the turning into the entrance by the speed camera, as it’s easy to miss!

The facilities and layout for parties at The Heights School.

The hall is a good size, big enough for up to a Large Party (6 Jeeps). It opens out onto a covered play area (which we don’t think is big enough for our track) but means that the party goers can get some fresh air if the weather is good. The room next door (double doors) is simply superb – and is where parents set up for the birthday feast. The side room also has doors onto the outdoor area, so it’s really convenient.

Loading and parking

Sadly there are some drawbacks to this venue – but forewarned is forearmed as they say. Although there is plenty of parking outside, beware if you have a party on the morning (or sometimes early afternoon) on a Saturday during the Football Season, as the car park is also used by Caversham Trents and their opposition so it can be a nightmare. Their parents also seem to like parking in the access lane (blocking egress for ambulances if needed on the pitch) which also serves to block the parking space (behind gates) which is best for loading for the venue.

Talking of loading – that’s not easy either. The 2nd part of the doors leading from the foyer to the corridor (needed to get the Jeeps through) are unlocked for a few seconds with a pass. So when the door closes we need to find someone with the security pass again. However, we have learnt the trick of blocking the door open, but it’s still a pain. The corridor is also quite long.

If we don’t get a suitable parking space, then the distance from where we park to the hall can be quite a distance. We bring an awful lot of bulky equipment, and every metre adds time, both going in and going out. For this reason it’s necessary for us to add a small surcharge to this venue, and recommend a 3pm start time as opposed to a 2.30pm for afternoon parties, to allow us time to get in. Equally, we’d prefer a 10am party start time in the morning to give us time to get out!

The Heights School – a Summary as a kids party venue

Aside from the access and parking issues, once we are all set up and ready to go the venue is ace! Plenty of space, an outdoor area, and a fabulous side space to set up for birthday tea. So for kids party ideas in Reading we’d definitely recommend a Jeep or Go Kart party at The Heights Primary School.

If the hall at Caversham Heights Primary school is unavailable or just doesn’t quite fit the bill for your child’s car party, then it’s not the end of the road! We have a database of venues all over Reading and the surrounding areas. The closest alternative is at Highdown School in Emmer Green, but if you are prepared to travel a bit, one of our all time favourite venues for a Jeep Driving Party is the Upper Basildon Village Hall.

Because of the loading and parking issues at this venue we have to charge a £25 excess for parties held here.
